Pressing Pause In Politics + Declarations!

Scripture Focus: "I delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart." — Psalm 40:8 (NKJV)

As I was building our study on Building A Fortress of the Lord, He specifically spoke to me about self-control the ability to press pause in any given testing scenario and lean into a virtue of God, another fruit of the Spirit, or just a fresh perspective of the Lord. What I didn't expect Him to reference this too was the current political climate. I believe this is an urgent message for this hour!

In times like these, it’s easy to feel like our voices don’t make a difference. We might wonder if one prayer, one conversation, or one vote could truly impact our communities or nation. But let me remind you: as a child of God, your voice matters, and so does your prayer. God has placed each of us here with purpose, and He calls us to make an impact—not from a place of fear, but from faith.

Whether you’re in the UK voting for a new leader, faced with a critical decision in the US political arena, or simply someone who cares deeply for your nation and the nations of the earth, the steps I’m sharing here will help you find your footing. This is a call to stand, to speak, and to act, all while pressing pause to align ourselves with God’s heart. Let’s explore what it means to use our voices and our prayers to bring God’s will into our communities, nation, and the world.

Press Pause and Recognize: God Has Given You Influence

Declaration: “I declare that God is sovereign over my nation’s leaders. I will pray and trust in His plans for our community and country.”

It’s not just the leaders and officials who have a voice; each of us has a role in bringing God’s truth into the public sphere. In 1 Timothy 2:2, Paul urges us to pray for "kings and all who are in authority" so that we might live peaceful, godly lives. This means we are called to take action by praying and speaking truth. God has given us influence—whether it’s a conversation with a neighbor, an online post, or casting a vote. Your voice, guided by the Spirit, carries power. Let’s use it wisely, lifting up leaders and decisions to God by faith while trusting that He hears and responds.

Press Pause on Distractions and Step Into the Real Battle

Declaration: “I declare that my battle is not with people, but against spiritual forces. I stand in God’s strength, clothed in His armor.”

In Ephesians 6:12, we’re reminded that "we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, and the rulers of the darkness of this age." Our battle isn’t with people who think differently; it’s against the spiritual forces behind division, fear, and deception. I may need to say that again: our battle isn't with people who think differently! When we press pause on these distractions and enter into prayer, we’re engaging in the real fight. Instead of using our energy to argue or condemn, we pray with purpose, knowing that our prayers can shift atmospheres and open the door for God’s peace and truth to reign. I have sadly seen and discerned divisions even by the unspoken amongst us and this indeed requires a measure of self-control and patience.

Press Pause on Fear-Based News and Speak Life

Declaration: “I declare that I choose to set my eyes on things that reflect God’s truth. My heart is focused on peace, not fear.”

There’s no shortage of news and social media updates, but not all of it is edifying.

In the current politics in the US, it is mostly unavoidable for anyone with a smartphone or TV. I read this statement last week:

The survey, which polled over 1,000 Americans online in August 2024, found that 79% of people experience election anxiety.

And this is in the USA alone forgetting any other nation!

Psalm 101:3 says, "I will set nothing wicked before my eyes." Sometimes, guarding our hearts means choosing what we engage with.

If certain channels or conversations lead to fear or frustration, it’s okay to take a step back.

Replace the noise with declarations of God’s promises over our nation, communities, and leaders. Imagine the difference if we chose to speak life, hope, and truth, instead of echoing fear or frustration. Your words carry power; let them reflect the peace and faith that God offers.

Look out below for a special gift to help!

Press Pause and Act in Love Toward Those You Disagree With

Declaration: “I declare that I will love and bless those who disagree with me, choosing to show Christ’s love in all interactions.”

Jesus’ command to "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (Matthew 5:44) challenges us to engage with compassion, even in political discussions. Imagine how your influence could grow if others saw you approach disagreements with grace and understanding. When we choose to listen, pray, and respect, we’re opening doors for meaningful conversations and opportunities to reflect God’s love. Let’s make it our goal to represent Christ in every interaction, remembering that our kindness can soften hearts and open people to God’s truth.

Press Pause and Know: Your Vote Is a Stewardship of Faith

Declaration: “I declare that my vote is an act of faith. I will use it as a way to honor God’s truth and will.”

Your vote isn’t just a civic duty; it’s a gift from God, a chance to speak up for righteousness and justice. Colossians 3:23-24 reminds us, "Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord." Voting is one way we get to do just that—by aligning our choices with God’s values. Pray over your decisions, ask for God’s wisdom, and vote as an expression of your faith, trusting that He’s working through every choice you make. Our voices, combined with prayer, have the power to influence our communities, laws, and nation. Let’s see it as an opportunity to honor God.

Press Pause and Stand for Righteousness, Even When It’s Hard

Declaration: “I declare that I will seek God’s Kingdom and righteousness above all else, trusting Him with everything.

If you ever feel unqualified, remember that God has always used ordinary people to stand for truth. The heroes of our faith—Noah, Abraham, David, and Rahab—all had flaws, yet God used them to impact nations. You don’t have to be perfect to make a difference; you have to be willing to obey God. This stands for those in power and government, God can use ANYONE! Matthew 6:33 encourages us to "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness," and God will take care of the rest. Let’s have the courage and boldness to speak up for what is right, knowing that God equips and empowers us.

Press Pause and Be Salt and Light in Every Conversation

Declaration: “I declare that I am salt and light, bringing hope, truth, and grace wherever I go.”

When Jesus called us "the salt of the earth" and "the light of the world" (Matthew 5:13-14), He was telling us that we’re meant to stand out, to bring flavor and light wherever we go. Whether it’s a conversation over coffee, a social media post, or a moment of prayer, let’s choose words that bring clarity, hope, and truth. We don’t have to agree with everyone, but we can always bring grace. Let’s make it our mission to shine His light in every space we enter.

Press Pause and Pray for Hearts to Turn to Jesus

Declaration: “I declare that God is moving and that hearts are turning to Jesus. Revival is here, and lives are being changed.”

At the end of the day, our deepest hope is that people will come to know Jesus. Luke 19:10 says, "For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost." Let’s not just pray for policies and leaders, but for souls. Imagine if our prayers could lead to a revival across our communities, where people encounter the love and forgiveness of Christ. Let’s boldly pray for those who don’t yet know Him, trusting that God will use us to bring hope and salvation to our nation.

Building a Fortress of Faith and Making a Stand

Declaration: “I declare that my heart is at peace, trusting God with all outcomes. He is sovereign over my community and nation.”

When we press pause to align with God’s heart, we’re building a stronghold—a place of faith and clarity that can’t be shaken. This isn’t about stepping back or staying silent; it’s about taking a bold stand in faith, letting God’s truth shape our actions, words, and prayers. And as we unite with other believers, our voices become even stronger. Together, we’re building a fortress of the Lord over our communities, a place where God’s love, truth, and light can shine.

Let’s Pray Together

Lord, thank You for reminding me that my voice matters. Help me to use it to bring hope, truth, and love to those around me. Give me wisdom in every conversation and decision. May I be a light in dark places, reflecting Your grace and standing for Your truth. I lift my leaders, my community, and my nation to You. Let Your will be done, and may many hearts turn to Jesus through my prayers and actions. In Jesus' name, Amen.
