This Weeks Devotional - November 15th

Clean Your House! Part One

  • "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength." (Mark 12:30, NIV)

  • "Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?" (1 Corinthians 3:16, ESV)

As I prepare and engage in housework today, worshiping the Lord and inviting Him into every part of my heart, I received a powerful revelation: your internal house determines the strength of your external life.

In a busy family of six—balancing homeschooling, ministry, and a business dedicated to the Lord—routine is essential. Yet, as I was cooking, the Lord gently reminded me that before I can create an outward routine, I need an internal routine of the heart and soul.

We often focus so much on cleaning our external house that we forget to care for the one that matters most: the temple of the Holy Spirit, our hearts. Out of the heart flow the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23), and when the heart is neglected, chaos seeps into every area of life.

An Internal Routine: What does it look like?

Picture this: washing dishes isn’t just about cleanliness; it reflects the washing of your soul with God’s Word. Left unwashed, the stains of daily life—stress, fears, and disappointments—pile up, clouding your spiritual vision.

If the heart is the center of life, the mind is its control room. When cluttered with gossip, fear, or worldly distractions, we risk being conformed to the chaos around us rather than transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). Just as a house requires daily decluttering, so do our hearts and minds.

I reflected on something my mother often said: “Everything has its rightful place.” If the Word of God is not stored in the primary place of my heart, how can the Holy Spirit retrieve it when needed? Is God’s Word truly the treasure I guard above all else (Psalm 119:11)?

The Danger Of Misplaced Priorities

Here’s a hard question I had to ask myself: Have I placed my relationships, responsibilities, or ministry in the position that belongs only to God? It’s easy to allow external things to take over and become idols, displacing the first commandment.

But the Lord has shown me this truth: The first commandment is non-negotiable. When we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, everything else falls into place. The second commandment—loving others—must flow from the first. If we reverse the order, imbalance and disarray take over.

So, let me ask you:

  • If you were to walk through the rooms of your internal house, what would you find?

  • Are there idols sitting where only God should reign?

  • Is your heart cluttered with things that have no eternal value?

A Call to Inspect and Surrender

Beloved, you are the house of the Lord. If there is disarray in your life, relationships, or ministry, take time today to inspect your internal house. The strength of your external world depends on the order of your inner sanctuary.

Reflection:

Organizing your internal house is not a one-time task; it’s a daily act of surrender and alignment. When we keep our hearts in order before the Lord, His peace reigns in every area of our lives. Remember, God is not just interested in what you do for Him—He desires to dwell within you and rule every corner of your being.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for making me Your temple and for the precious gift of Your Spirit dwelling within me. Today, I surrender every area of my heart and mind to You. Shine Your light into the hidden corners of my life and reveal anything that has taken Your rightful place. I want You to reign above all else.
Help me to love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Show me how to align my internal house with Your truth and order. Renew my mind with Your Word, wash my soul with Your Spirit, and restore my heart to its first love: You.
I surrender every distraction, idol, and misplaced priority. Teach me to steward my heart and mind as holy ground for You. As I go about my day, let everything I do be an act of worship, pleasing in Your sight.
In Jesus’ name,Amen.

Action Step:

Take 10 minutes today to sit with the Lord and inspect your internal house. Ask Him, “Lord, what in my life needs to be decluttered or reordered?” Write down any insights He gives you and pray over them.

For continued encouragement, listen to these surrender prayers daily over the next month: Surrender Prayers.

Remember: A clean and ordered heart is a dwelling place where God’s glory shines most brightly.

Let’s steward it well.
